Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I join the library?
    You can join the library by completing our online registration form. Alternatively, you’re welcome to visit the library in person to join.
  • What are the library opening times?
    The library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using your Trust swipe card. Library staff are available between 8.30am and 4.30pm, Monday- Friday.
  • How do I get out of hours access?
    Outside of staffed hours, including Bank Holidays and weekends, you can gain access using your NHS Trust swipe card. You will need to swipe in twice, once at the side entrance to the Education Centre and once to enter the library.
  • How do I use the self-service machine?
    To use the self-service machine, you will need your reader code (5-digit library card number) and PIN (4-digit number on the reverse of your library card). To loan books, use the touch screen to select ‘issue’. Then enter your reader code, select OK and then enter your PIN, this will sign you in to your account. Then place all books on the ‘pad’ of the self-service (all at once) wait for the books to display on screen and select done. Then select ‘print receipt’ – the receipt will state your return date.
  • How do I search for a book?
    You can search for books and eBooks on the library catalogue
  • How many items can I borrow and for how long?
    You can borrow up to 8* items at a time. Loans are for six weeks, and you can renew your items a maximum of 6 times, as long as they haven’t been reserved by someone else. *Students on placement and other NHS employees, not from Chesterfield Royal Hospital can borrow 4 items at a time.
  • Can I borrow items when the library is unstaffed?
    Yes, you can use the self-service machine. You will need your library card number and PIN.
  • How do I renew my books?
    You can renew your books up to 5 times, as long as no-one else has reserved them. You can renew them by logging into your account on the library catalogue, using your library card number (reader code) and PIN. Instructions can be found here.   • How do I reserve a book?
    To reserve item(s) yourself online simply go to the online catalogue. Then log in to your account (log in is on the right-hand side of the webpage) by entering your reader code (5-digit library card number) and PIN (4-digit number on the reverse of your library card). Select the item you wish to reserve; this will bring up the items' details. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click reserve. You will be asked to confirm the reservation, simply click on OK. Once the item(s) you have reserved are ready for collection you will receive a reservation notification via email or post. The item(s) will be kept aside for you for 7 working days. If you no-longer require the item(s) please contact us.
  • How do I return my books?
    You can return your books using the self-service machine. There is a book return bin situated just outside the entrance to the library
